Kanye West est l'un des producteurs de hip hop les plus en vogue du moment. Après avoir fait ses premier essaie sur l'album de Jermaine Dupri en 1998, le jeune producteur est rapidement devenu le beatmaker favori des artistes du label Roc-A-Fella, le label de Jay-Z.


Kanye a montré tout son talent sur les disques de Talib Kweli, DMX, Ludacris, Scarface, Monica, Alicia Keys ou Janet Jackson. Début 2004, sort son premier album, The College Dropout, et en 2005 sort Late Registration. Après une semaine de vente, 900 000 unités vendues soit le deuxième plus gros démarrage après 50 Cent.

Alors que Jay-Z lui laisse gérer Roc-A-Fella, le chanteur a créé son label, G.O.O.D Music, et produit de nouveaux artistes. Le rappeur profite aussie de sa notoriété pour s'exprimer sur des sujets sensibles. Il évoque la discrimination des noirs américains, l'homophobie dans le hip-hop, et la pauvreté dans le monde.

En 2007, le rappeur propose Graduation, son dernier opus enregistré à Londres.

Comme nous l'avions rapporté, «Graduation» de Kanye West a fait son entrée à la première position du Billboard 200 américain suivi par «Curtis» de 50 Cent en deuxième place. Au Canada, la situation est la même: West est en tête des albums les plus vendus, suivi par 50 Cent.

Chez l'Oncle Sam, 957 000 exemplaires de «Graduation» se sont écoulés, selon Nielsen SoundScan. 50 Cent a vendu 691 000 exemplaires de «Curtis» et se retrouve en deuxième position du palmarès. Ces deux albums sont sortis le 11 septembre.

Notons que «Graduation» est l'album qui s'est le mieux vendu cette année jusqu'à présent. En 2005, «The Massacre» de 50 Cent s'était écoulé à 1,1 million d'exemplaires suivant sa sortie.
